Why choose mother-of-pearl crafts?
Mother of pearl is the natural lined crystals of calcium carbonate on sea shells. These crystals produce iridescent colors when reflecting light. Sea shell crafting has been popular in Asia since 932-1392.
What is Hanji?
Hanji is the use of mulberry tree paper for arts and crafting.
How is it made?
- An unfinished fiberboard box is painted. Mulberry paper is used to cover the box.
- A design is cut into a mother of pearl sheet. The sheet design is secured on box and smoothed.
- Several coats of lacquer are applied onto the box.
- The box is the dried to a glossy finish.
